Chapter 295: Corey’s Plan
Chapter 295: Corey’s Plan
Corey’s car travelled at maximum speed, if his tyres were to pop there was no doubt that his car would have a serious accident.
Corey was enjoying this, the wind was blowing aggressively against his skin but he couldn’t care less about losing control.
He had to get there fast and wondered why Dimitris tried to stop him, he gave his men clear instructions to blow out his tyres the moment he came into view.
He couldn’t risk failing the task given to him by Mariam and it has been a long time since he let loose.
There was no telling where Allison was but it was safe to assume she was dead. Corey suspected that Dimtiris had a hand to play in it.
Dimitris didn’t attempt to look into her disappearance like he did Jason, it was almost like he was certain that she had passed away so there was no need to waste resources in finding her.
Corey noticed that there was some roadblock ahead and this forced him to hit the brakes.
He thought about ramming through the barricade but that would damage the car, cars were one of the hardest things to come by right now because most were out of commission.
This was the only reason he stopped and the rest stopped behind him.
Corey was experienced in such situations, and he knew that the chances of finding people there were high.
He had to be careful or they could be wiped out because if the people they were following passed through here then they must be the ones to erect the barricade.
Corey exited the vehicle and spoke to his men in the car in a medium-high voice.
"Man, are you sure these people will want to join our community? I don’t know why but I don’t think the risk is worth it," Corey said.
This was a smart play because if anyone was watching them, there was no doubt that they would hear this and register them as friendly or at least a potential friendly.
It wasn’t suspicious at all as well because of the distance between him and the car.
"I think we should turn back, these people don’t want us here," The person in the car played along, he knew what Corey was doing and realized that this was the quickest way to bring them out of hiding.
Corey walked back to his car and even began to retreat just like he had said but the people here took the bait.
They came out of hiding and hailed down Corey, this was one of the worst mistakes that they could make but these people were no longer wearing their masks.
Jason helped them see the light and they began to think that maybe, just maybe they could trust others as well.
Corey hit the brakes and came out slowly from his car, they had quite the arsenal on them so he had to be careful.
In truth, they could easily wipe them out here but that meant that they wouldn’t be able to get back to their camp.
For now, they had to play along because it was clear that these people weren’t wanderers, they had a base they returned to.
Corey raised his hand to show his willingness to cooperate, they were probably wondering why there were no infected around their community.
Corey had encountered more undead than he had in quite a long time on his way here because their community suddenly became safe from these creatures for some unknown reason.
It meant that not only would others have their eyes on it but the zombies would be focused on other settlements or groups.
Corey smirked but the person before him wasn’t Andre, it was Brayden and he looked different.
He had cut his hair but what stood out the most was the scar on his forehead.
Corey, of course, had no idea who this person was but he looked dangerous.
"Who are you and why have you followed us?" Brayden questioned, getting right down to it.
His men raised their guns and pointed it right at Corey but Corey was calm in this situation because the chances of them pulling the trigger was exponentially low.
"How about you tell your men to lower their guns and then we’ll talk?" Corey suggested but Brayden wasn’t having any of it.
"How about you talk and we don’t blow your head off?" Brayden issued a stern warning and Corey instantly knew he wasn’t bluffing.
"We have come to ask you why you have been watching our community, what do you people want?" Corey questioned.
"We wanted to know why your area is the only one not swarming with zombies... Now that you have your answer, you may be on your way," Brayden replied coldly.
"As you wish," Corey said as he returned to his car, he knew that he couldn’t show any signs of desperation because they were the ones who needed them based on the earlier narrative he presented.
"Wait," Brayden said prompting a wicked grin to briefly crease Corey’s face before he turned around.
"Is that all you people want?" Brayden questioned, surprised by Corey’s willingness to retreat.
"We had an offer that we thought you might like but I’m afraid the reception we have gotten hasn’t been as warm as expected. You people are the ones that trespassed," Corey reminded them but the look on his face, Brayden didn’t know what he was talking about.
He looked at the man beside him, who couldn’t even hold his gaze and he instantly knew that some people had gone to scout the place without their permission.
There have been rumours about a community unaffected by the apocalypse, Brayden assumed that the zombies didn’t roam there because they had sophisticated traps that prevented them from doing so.
He wouldn’t have had a problem with them scouting the area even without his permission but they led them right back to them.
This put them in a compromising position but there was no other choice because nothing was stopping them from returning in bigger numbers.
Right now, Brayden’s priority was to show these people that they weren’t hostile.
He raised his hand and the people behind him lowered their guns.
"Fine, follow me," Brayden said but he had played right into Corey’s hands.
The only thing that could prevent the impending slaughter was Dimitris but would he make it in time?
