Chapter 329: Overestimating Oneself
Chapter 329: Overestimating Oneself
"Lady Rose, please exit the carriage and return with us to Flying Flower City."
"The Hundred Flowers Clan belongs to Flying Flower City," the Knight Captain said, sitting atop his horse before the carriage.
The surrounding Flying Flower Swordswomen all grew wary.
The opposing party had immediately surrounded the carriage, their approach menacing.
Evelyn stepped out of the carriage and fixed the Knight Captain with a cold stare. "Audrin, go back. I will not return until I find the City Lord."
Knight Captain Audrin said, "The City Lord is waiting for you in Flying Flower City."
Evelyn sneered. "The one you speak of is an imposter. Can you no longer recognize the very person who gave you your chance?"
Audrin’s voice was grave. "Kira City Lord is the City Lord acknowledged by all of Flying Flower City."
"Alice is long dead! Stop clinging to the past!" Audrin shouted.
Alice was the former City Lord of Flying Flower City.
She was also the old City Lord to whom the four members of the Hundred Flowers Clan had sworn their loyalty.
Evelyn stared at him, her gaze icy, and sneered. "I can’t believe I never saw you for the ungrateful cur you are."
"If the Lord City Lord hadn’t brought you to Flying Flower City, the Magic Beasts in the wild would have devoured you, leaving not even a bone behind."
Audrin was unwilling to speak of the past.
He drew his sword. "Please return to Flying Flower City with me, Lady Rose. If you’re unwilling to cooperate, then I’ll be forced to use violence."
"Heh. And who gave you the confidence to speak to me like that?"
Evelyn looked at Audrin with utter disdain.
Audrin said nothing, simply waving his sword.
The surrounding Knights drew their swords, preparing to fight.
Audrin pulled a Magic Scroll from within his armor.
RIP!
He tore the Magic Scroll open, and a Fire Cloud enveloped the entire scene.
Evelyn’s expression flickered.
The Fire Cloud wouldn’t cause any harm; its sole purpose was to suppress her Flower Magic.
Within the Fire Cloud, the power of her Flower Magic was drastically reduced.
"Attack!"
Knight Captain Audrin waved his sword and roared the command.
His men charged toward the carriage.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The Flying Flower Swordswomen clashed with the Knights.
The Flying Flower Swordswomen were all agile, offense-oriented Professionals. They were quickly at a disadvantage against the Knights, who were clad head-to-toe in armor and possessed extremely high Defense Power.
They couldn’t penetrate the Knights’ defenses.
The attacks of the Flying Flower Swordswomen seemed utterly ineffectual.
"Thorns!"
Evelyn began Casting.
A mass of thorns materialized out of thin air, entangling the surrounding Knights.
Their movements were restricted.
She wasn’t using lethal force.
After all, these Knights were part of Flying Flower City’s core strength.
If she destroyed the order of Knights, the city would suffer a grievous loss, even after she found Alice and reclaimed it.
SIZZLE!
The thorny vines burned within the Fire Cloud, growing Fragile.
With a single powerful slash, the Knights easily broke free from their thorny restraints.
Audrin led a few men in a charge toward Evelyn.
Sakura, the leader of the Flying Flower Swordswomen, met them head-on, intercepting the men beside Audrin with her superb Swordsmanship.
Under the cover of his men, Audrin broke through and reached Evelyn.
"Charge!"
Without hesitation, Audrin activated one of a Knight’s strongest Skills.
THUD! THUD! THUD!
The warhorse beneath him shrieked as it broke into a gallop, its speed ever-increasing.
His Fighting Spirit condensed into a massive spearhead aimed straight at Evelyn.
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed as a Shield formed from countless petals materialized before her.
The petals burned in the Fire Cloud, becoming Fragile.
BANG!
The Fighting Spirit Riding Spear shattered the petal Shield.
It closed in on Evelyn.
Evelyn stretched out a hand, and a mass of rose vines surged out from beside her.
The thorny rose vines coiled around the Fighting Spirit Riding Spear.
Just before being incinerated by the Fire Cloud, they crushed the spear of Fighting Spirit to pieces.
Audrin was now right in front of Evelyn.
He swung his arm, bringing his Knight’s Sword down in an overhead slash.
It cleaved through a large swath of the rose vines, which had already grown brittle in the flames.
Evelyn waved her hand.
A cloud of Hypnotic Pollen flew out.
But it burned to ash in mid-air.
Audrin shouted, "Stop struggling! This Magic Scroll was created specifically to counter your abilities. Under the suppression of this Fire Cloud Array, you can’t use any of your powers to their full effect!"
"Surrender quietly and come back with me to Flying Flower City."
Evelyn just smiled. "You underestimate me. And you vastly underestimate the Power of the Hundred Flowers Clan."
Her figure slowly began to rise.
Beneath her feet, a crimson Flame Rose bloomed.
It was a rose wreathed in living flame.
Audrin looked on in utter shock.
"That’s impossible!"
"Flame Burst."
The Flame Rose at Evelyn’s feet expanded rapidly, engulfing Audrin in an instant.
"AHH!"
Audrin swung his Longsword and activated a Great Knight’s Tier Four Extraordinary Trait, Indestructible, attempting to withstand the Flame Rose.
WHOOSH!
The fire blazed furiously.
A figure stood within the flames, steam rising from his body.
Audrin had survived.
It was not because he had blocked the Flame Rose.
It was simply that Evelyn had shown him mercy and spared his life.
Li Wei, watching the battle from the side, made a casual gesture in the air.
His Flame Domain expanded.
In an instant, the Fire Cloud Array became his to command.
Under his control, the Knights within the array felt like meat being slow-roasted in tin cans.
The heat was unbearable.
One of them scrambled to remove his sturdy Armor.
He was surprised to find that only the Armor was scorching hot.
With Li Wei’s help, the disadvantaged Flying Flower Swordswomen quickly unhorsed the Knights.
The battle was over. All the Knights were taken captive.
Audrin’s helmet was removed, revealing his sorry state. He stood among the others, his Armor burned pitch-black.
His disheveled, sweat-drenched hair clung to his face and neck.
He looked up at Evelyn, a flicker of fear in his eyes.
"What are you going to do to us?" Audrin asked.
There was a hint of panic in his voice.
He was, after all, afraid of death.
He possessed none of the noble spirit of a Knight who would bravely face death.
Otherwise, he never would have betrayed Alice, to whom he owed a great debt of gratitude, and chosen to defect to Kira.
Evelyn looked at Audrin without answering his question.
She turned to Sakura. "Take some of our people and escort them to Maple City. I will decide their fate when I return."
Sakura nodded. "Yes, my lady."
In the end, Evelyn had Sakura take all the Flying Flower Swordswomen with her.
They would be of no use at the Poison Dragon Cave anyway.
That place was far too dangerous; the Flying Flower Swordswomen were mostly Tier Two Professionals, with only a few at Tier Three.
Even Sakura, their leader, was merely a Tier Three Peak Swordsman.
She was still a long way from becoming a Grand Swordmaster.
If they followed them into the Poison Dragon Cave, they would only be a burden.
With their retinue of Flying Flower Swordswomen gone, only Evelyn, Li Wei, and Lilith remained.
Their pace quickened considerably.
The three of them didn’t even need the carriage, as their Flying speed was much faster.
However, to conserve their physical strength and Mana,
the trio still chose to take the carriage to the Poison Dragon Cave.
Without the escort of the Flying Flower Swordswomen, the carriage’s speed increased significantly.
The trio quickly passed through the Flower Territory.
By the time Kira received word of what happened, the three of them were already gone.
He dispatched men to intercept Sakura and the captive Knights.
"Bring my men back."
