Chapter 344: Humiliation
Chapter 344: Humiliation
Setan had clearly learned his lesson this time.
Before Yuna and the others could even step through the gates, they were stopped by the guards.
"My apologies, Lord Yian," one of the guards said respectfully. "The City Lord has given strict orders. Without his permission, no beastman is allowed to enter the City Lord Manor."
"What did you just say?"
Yian’s face darkened with fury.
"Even I can’t enter? I’m his father."
The old lion nearly exploded with anger.
That unfilial brat had truly gone too far. He actually dared to block his own parents from entering.
Beside him, Yuna puffed out her cheeks in annoyance.
"What is wrong with Setan? Since when did he start keeping even us outside?"
Maya glared at the manor gates.
"Do you see now?" she said indignantly. "Look how thoroughly that female has bewitched Lord Setan."
Her irritation grew with every passing second.
He was protecting that female so fiercely that he would not even allow his own family inside.
Atao wisely remained silent.
"Please wait a moment, Lord Yian," the guard said nervously. "We’ll notify the City Lord immediately."
The guard hurried away.
Yian stood outside with a thunderous expression. If not for the embarrassment it would cause, he would have forced his way inside already.
When Setan received the report, he immediately came out to meet them.
Stopping before his parents, he said calmly, "Father, Mother, let’s talk somewhere else."
He already knew an argument was unavoidable.
The last thing he wanted was a public confrontation at the manor gates where Nina might witness the entire spectacle.
Without waiting for a response, he turned and headed toward a nearby reception room.
The others followed.
The moment they entered, Yian got straight to the point.
"Who is that female?"
His gaze swept over Setan’s forehead.
At least the boy had retained a shred of reason. There was no mating mark yet.
"She is the female I love," Setan said without hesitation. "She is also the only female I will ever acknowledge as my mate."
Yian’s expression twisted.
"Have you lost your mind? You’re willing to bind yourself to some wandering female of unknown background?"
His voice rose with anger.
He pointed toward Maya.
"I already arranged a marriage agreement between you and Maya. You will marry her. How could some outsider possibly compare to an outstanding noble Holy Female like her?"
"I will never marry Maya."
Setan’s voice turned cold.
"And I refuse to acknowledge any engagement you arranged on my behalf."
A mocking laugh escaped him.
"The first time you used me as a bargaining chip for Blaze City, I tolerated it. But I am an adult now. My marriage is my own decision. You have no right to interfere."
His eyes sharpened.
"And Nina is not some outsider. She is the finest female in this world. I won’t allow anyone to insult her."
"You’ve completely lost your senses."
Yian’s face was as dark as a storm cloud.
"You know perfectly well that the first engagement was arranged for the good of Blaze City. This time I’m doing the same thing. I’m thinking about your future."
He drew a frustrated breath.
"Besides, when I learned that female wasn’t suitable, didn’t I cancel the engagement for your sake?"
Setan let out another cold laugh.
"You were the one who arranged the engagement, and you were the one who canceled it."
His gaze carried unmistakable ridicule.
"I had already prepared myself to fulfill the agreement. Then you suddenly broke your word and withdrew it. If convenience was all that mattered, why didn’t you just marry me off from the beginning?"
The truth was that he had never truly objected to political marriage.
Back then, he had no female he loved.
The idea of strengthening two cities through marriage alliances had seemed perfectly reasonable.
Although his father had made the decision without consulting him, Setan believed responsibility mattered.
Once a promise was made, it should be honored.
At the time, he had intended to meet the female and judge her for himself.
If she truly was as cruel and depraved as the rumors claimed, he likely would not have gone through with the marriage. Even so, he would have offered compensation for the broken engagement. If compensation wasn’t enough, he would have supported her for the rest of her life out of responsibility.
If she turned out to be different from the rumors, if they could get along reasonably well, then perhaps he would have genuinely married her.
Instead, his father repeatedly insisted that the female was worthless, malicious, and unfit to be anyone’s mate.
Determined to cancel the engagement, Yian had pushed the matter through.
Setan had felt uneasy about it, but at the time he did not care enough to argue.
Everything changed yesterday.
While reviewing city affairs, one of his subordinates informed him that Spirit Stone City had officially cleared Princess Nina’s name.
The rumors that had destroyed her reputation had all been false.
Only then did he realize she had never been the monster everyone claimed.
The revelation left him feeling both sympathy and guilt.
Still, those feelings belonged to the past.
Now he had Nina.
No other female could occupy his heart.
"I was trying to protect you," Yian argued stubbornly. "At the time, Princess Nina’s reputation was awful. Did you really want to marry a female everyone believed was barren and vicious?"
Setan met his father’s eyes.
"But was she actually any of those things?"
The question struck with uncomfortable precision.
Yian’s expression stiffened.
"Well... no."
A trace of embarrassment crossed his face.
"But I did investigate. I sent people to gather information. Every report that came back confirmed the rumors. How was I supposed to know they were false? You can’t blame me entirely for that."
Yet even as he spoke, his confidence wavered.
For the first time, he found himself unable to meet his son’s gaze.
Only recently had Yian received news from Spirit Stone City revealing the truth behind the rumors.
The accusations against Princess Nina had all been fabricated. Someone had deliberately orchestrated a campaign to ruin her reputation.
Truthfully, he felt a measure of guilt about it.
Had those lies never existed, Princess Nina’s status would actually have been a suitable match for his son.
As for her appearance, he remained skeptical. Spirit Stone City claimed she was beautiful, but who knew whether that was true?
His confidence weakened noticeably.
"Even if the rumors have been cleared up now, the engagement was canceled long ago. Why are you bringing up old matters?"
In his mind, the issue had already been settled.
Yes, they had broken the engagement, but he had provided generous compensation afterward. As far as he was concerned, no debt remained between them.
Setan shook his head.
"I’m not trying to reopen old wounds. I simply want you to stop interfering in my marriage."
His gaze was steady.
"What you believe is best isn’t always right."
Yian sighed heavily.
"I’m your father. Everything I’ve done was for your sake. With your strength, your status, and your future, you deserve the finest female available. You should have a female all to yourself. Why would you choose a female who already has so many mates?"
He almost called Nina a wild female again but managed to stop himself at the last second.
Yuna quickly joined in.
"Setan, Maya is wonderful. She’s beautiful, talented, and she’s devoted to you. If you let her go, where will you ever find another female so perfectly suited to you?"
Setan’s expression did not change.
"That’s what you believe."
His voice remained calm but unwavering.
"She isn’t even one ten-thousandth as wonderful as Nina."
The faint smile on his lips carried absolute certainty.
"I will never give up on Nina. In this lifetime, she is the only female I will ever marry."
Then, as though delivering a casual afterthought, he added another sentence.
"Besides, Nina and I have already been intimate. I already belong to her."
He deliberately kept Sunny’s existence to himself.
Nina had not accepted him yet.
If his parents learned the truth, they might inform the pride. Then they would inevitably try to claim Sunny for Blaze City.
Nina would be furious.
And if Nina became angry with him, his chances would vanish completely.
Silence exploded through the room.
"What did you just say?"
Yian stared at him in disbelief.
Then his face flushed crimson.
"You... you... how could you do something so shameless?"
His blood pressure shot upward so fast he nearly felt dizzy.
How could this idiot son casually give himself away?
No matter how outstanding Setan was, plenty of females would care about such things.
Yian glanced toward Maya.
As expected, her expression had darkened considerably.
Maya bit down hard on her lip.
Lord Setan had actually slept with that female.
The thought made her furious.
Although she liked him deeply, she could not pretend it did not bother her.
For the first time, uncertainty crept into her heart.
Did she still want him?
With her status and beauty, countless excellent males in Blaze City would gladly accept her proposal.
Yet Setan remained the most exceptional among them.
She had admired him for years.
Only after his previous engagement was canceled had she finally seen an opportunity.
Giving up now felt unbearable.
If not for that old engagement, she would have proposed long ago.
She had believed victory was already within reach.
Instead, another female had appeared out of nowhere and ruined everything.
Setan remained completely unconcerned.
"What’s shameless about being intimate with the female I love?"
His expression softened.
Truthfully, he was grateful fate had placed Nina in his path.
Because it was Nina, he could speak those words without the slightest regret.
Yuna looked equally upset.
"Setan, how could you behave like this?"
She looked genuinely disappointed.
"A male should preserve his fidelity before marriage. How could you casually become involved with a female before forming a proper bond?"
She could not help suspecting that some female outside the city had corrupted her son.
Her disciplined, self-controlled son had never behaved this way before.
Setan rubbed the bridge of his nose awkwardly.
That incident had been an accident.
Well... not entirely.
If Nina had wanted him, accident or not, he would have agreed a hundred times over.
Yian took several deep breaths to suppress his rising temper.
Then another thought occurred to him.
"If you’ve already been intimate with her, why aren’t you mates yet?"
His eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"Maybe you don’t actually love her as much as you claim."
In his opinion, truly devoted lovers would have completed the mating bond long ago.
Perhaps his son simply hated arranged marriages and was using this female as an excuse to rebel.
The theory seemed increasingly reasonable.
Setan nearly choked.
"Of course that’s not true!"
He immediately denied it.
The mere suggestion made him anxious.
"I love her. More than anything."
His expression softened into helpless frustration.
"She just hasn’t accepted me yet."
The room fell silent once more.
Yian’s face froze.
The blood pressure he had only just managed to lower surged upward again with renewed force.
For a moment, he genuinely struggled to breathe.
Then he exploded.
"You worthless brat!"
With a roar, he swung his fist directly at Setan.
"You actually became someone’s lover without even securing a mating bond first?"
His voice shook the room.
"You’ve disgraced all of Blaze City! Today I’m going to beat some sense into you!"
The mighty City Lord of Blaze City becoming an unofficial lover to a female who had not even accepted him yet.
To Yian, there could be no greater humiliation.
The sight before him was enough to make any father lose his mind.
