Chapter 246 - 243: A Drunk Woman Is Safer at Her Own Home
Although Seth didn’t answer out loud, he looked at her intently, a question in his eyes as he waited for her to continue.
But Clara Grant hesitated, not knowing how to bring it up.
’Should I just ask him straight out if he once had a fiancée? If he was deeply in love with her, and still hasn’t gotten over her?’
’If I asked, would it sound like I was accusing him?’
’Besides, he hadn’t told me. Maybe he felt that, given our relationship, there was no need. Or perhaps it was a secret buried deep in his heart, belonging only to him and his fiancée, one that no third party should be allowed to pry into.’
’If I asked, would he think I was being too nosy? Or that I was invading his privacy?’
’What if I asked, and he just coldly said, "That’s none of your business"? Wouldn’t I just die of embarrassment?’
’And what if asking made him think I actually care whether there’s another woman in his life, or that I care about this marriage? Wouldn’t he laugh at me for taking a marriage that was never serious to begin with, far too seriously?’
Clara Grant’s heart gradually settled. ’I’m being too dramatic,’ she thought. Their union had been more like a joke from the start. They had gotten married to satisfy their own needs after knowing each other for less than a month.
If that wasn’t a joke, what was? And who knew when this farce would come to an abrupt end.
Perhaps Seth understood all this perfectly, which was probably why he’d never confronted her or tried to interfere, even after finding out she had feelings for Miles.
So, what right did she have to question him now? What standing did she have?
In a marriage of convenience where both parties had someone they couldn’t forget... that was perfectly fair, wasn’t it?
Seeing that she had called out to him only to stand there in a daze, Seth couldn’t help but ask, "What is it?"
Clara snapped back to her senses. Her eyes flickered, and she pursed her lips. "It’s... nothing. I just wanted to ask, I remember going to Sarah’s place, so how did I end up here?"
"You were drunk, so I went and picked you up."
Clara raised an eyebrow. "Sarah called you?" ’Sarah actually sold me out?’
"I asked her first if you were there," Seth explained, surprisingly patient as he defended Sarah Shelby.
’After all, it was obvious Sarah Shelby genuinely cared about her. By volunteering that Clara was drunk, she was trying her best to push them together.’
Clara pouted unconsciously. "How did you even guess I might be with her?"
"The film set, your family’s home, and Sarah Shelby’s apartment. Where else do you have to go? In the middle of the night, you obviously wouldn’t go back to the set, and you wouldn’t just show up at your family’s home unannounced. That only leaves Sarah’s." Seth shrugged. "It wasn’t hard to guess."
As soon as the words were out, a strange expression came over Seth’s face. His gaze on her turned heated, and his Adam’s apple bobbed. Then he added, seemingly out of nowhere, "A drunk woman is safer in her own home."
’What?’
Clara looked over at him in confusion. She could clearly feel his stare growing more intense, and his eyes had already traveled down from her face to her... chest.
